Abstract

For years, cases related to intolerence of races, religions, and ethnicities have been used for political weapons in Indonesia. This cases has affected children's point of view and behaviour on diversity around them. In order to help not only children, but also parents and educators to be aware of it, I created a 70 minute play for children that discusses how children tolerate differences. I use Indonesia's folktales characters as my characters, and also use Indonesia as the setting. The first main character of the story, Nawang Wulan, struggles on how she tries to be accepted by her new friends who are different from her. While the other main character, Bawang Merah, insisting on excludes Nawang Wulan from her groups because she feels insecure of Nawang Wulan's differences. At the end of the story, Nawang Wulan finally learns that she has to accept her friends' differences first to be accepted. While Bawang Merah finally learns that even though Nawang Wulan is different, her differences are not a threat for her. I use theory of Diversity and Differences in childhood stageand also the theory of inferiority to justify my characters' behavior towards the conflicts. Through this creative work, I want to raise an awareness that diversity is inevitable, even around children. Therefore, it is better for them to learn how to tolerate it so they can accept it rather than misused it.

Abstract

Gunawangsa Manyar Hotel is a three star hotel in the East of Surabaya. As a three star hotel, Gunawangsa Manyar Hotel also has competitors such as Swiss BelInn Manyar Hotel, Fave Hotel, Core Hotel, and Everbright Hotel. Compared to the competitors, Gunawangsa Hotel is not well known by many people. In introducing the hotel, they only use brochure and flyer for printed advertising. It means the tools they have are ineffective. Therefore, to introduce the hotel effectively, marketing booklet is the good solution for Gunawangsa Hotel since marketing booklet brings complete information needed by potential customers. The content of the booklet consists of company overview, product description, and contact information. In the product description, the USPs would be more emphasized. The USPs are obtained by the interview result with six guests of Gunawangsa Manyar Hotel.

This thesis mainly deals with the theory of perception and decoding process to observe how Petra Christian University students perceive the connection between Converse brand and the use of  language in one of its T-shirt products, “Proud to be”. From the analysis, the researcher found out that the students could draw a line between the brand and its statement on its T-shirt design. This means that “Proud to be” statement is considered a success as a code to express the company’s message to its consumers and suits the brand personality of Converse. In conclusion, the language used in product design is able to communicate the brand personality.

Abstract

Teenagers are particularly susceptible to conformity and apparently self-confidence plays a significant role in how teenagers make individual choices.Drawing on the relevance between the two, this creative project explores today’s teenagers’ manner on conformity and assesses how teenagers’ self-confidence is related to their decision to conform or not to conform. To understand how self-confidence and conformity relate to each other deeper, I use Herbert Kelman’s theory of the three processes of attitude change in conformity and Mastuti’s theory of self-confidence on self-confidence. This creative project is two plays of 30 minute play which explores about the same issue but is seen from different angle of perspectives. Behind the Mask focuses on how a teenager who has lack of self-confidence conforms to her peer group while Look Me in the Eye focuses on how a teenager who has self-confidence conforms to her peer group.Showing different angle of perspectives help me conveying my purpose of writing the plays which is to help teenagers understand that conformity in daily life is inevitable and how their self-confidence plays an important role so that they will not get influenced by conformity easily. For the genre, the plays use realistic drama as the genre conventions suit the style of my plays which portrays a conflict that happens in teenagers’ daily life in a realistic way.

Abstract

The company where I did my internship is PT. Woodone Integra Indonesia or WII. WIIwas established in 2015 as a manufacturer of engineered wooden doors and other wood related products. The main problem WII is facing is their current ineffective company profile to promote its business to potential customers. It fails to communicate the Unique Selling Proposition or USPs of WII in a persuasive way. Additionally, the contents are not up to date and the design is not interesting enough to attract potential customers. This problem led to the inefficient tool usage for the marketing staff on events such as exhibition and clients visit. Thus, the solution to this problem is to replace the current company profile with a newer version. The content of the new tool will be better in terms of content and design as it will highlight the company’s USP. The reason it will be a good solution for the company’s issue is because the new company profile can be used to attract more potential customers by the marketing staff during said overseas exhibitions and clients visit. Furthermore, it will also benefit WII as it can help the company to introduce and promote not just their company but also their strengths, uniqueness, and credibility to ensure WII stands out from its competitors.

This present study would hopefully make several noteworthy contributions to the quality improvement of both BIMP Iand BIMP II textbooks.

Abstract

This creative work is about a young adult who is excited to explore her identity of someone who has a magical ability. It explores the issue of identities in young adults and its correlation to rebellion in the form of running away, which is common in Indonesia. It aims to bring the readers alongside the main character on her journey of exploring her identity, as well as dealing with her parents’ rejection of the identity that she is most comfortable in. To further understand how she deals with her parents’ pressure to take an identity she does not like, Erik Erikson’s fifth psychosocial stage—Identity vs. Role confusion is used as the first theory of this work. The second theory, James Marcia’s identity status, is used to understand how the main character explores her identity in different statuses. The genre of this creative work is low fantasy, which is a subgenre of fantasy that uses minimal magical elements and is set in the real world.
